ABOUT SIMPLE |
The Simple brand concept was founded by a chemist whose children suffered from sensitive skin. He wanted to develop a kind and gentle soap they could use. The result: the first perfume- and colour-free soap suited to sensitive skin, which was first marketed in 1960.
As a strong following grew in the UK, Simple developed other 100% perfume- and colour-free skincare products that were also dedicated to sensitive skin. In 1978, Simple pioneered the 3-step skincare regime: cleanse, tone and moisturise.
Over the decades, more Simple products have been introduced for bath, shower, anti-perspirant and haircare. Simple packaging has evolved as well – to evoke the refreshing and nurturing benefits of the brand.
To this day, the Simple brand has gone from strength to strength, broadening its product ranges to offer solutions for all skin types, even for sensitive skin. Categories include skincare, bath and shower, toiletries, suncare and men’s. Simple uses only the finest natural ingredients and no unnecessary additives, colouring or perfume.

Simple products are not tested on animals. It is a policy of Simple not to undertake any animal testing during the development of its cosmetic and toiletry products.
Simple has never sponsored, either directly or indirectly, animal testing of any of our products nor of the ingredients used in their manufacture. A great deal of research and development is conducted on the formulation of all our products within the Simple range. We do this by only using known ingredients that have an established and satisfactory safety record. In addition, all Simple products and ingredients are subject to full product safety clearance in compliance with the European Cosmetic Directive. Should further research be required on a particular product or ingredient, we can confirm that as a responsible manufacturer, suitable non-animal testing techniques are employed.
Where do you source Palm Oil from?
The maker of Simple, Accantia Health & Beauty Ltd, is an active member of the CTPA (Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association), which has continuing dialogue with organisations such as RTSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) in order to try and encourage sustainable production of toiletry ingredients.

ANTI-AGEING |
|
Why does Simple use Vitamin A in some of its anti-ageing products?
Vitamin A helps to improve skin elasticity and stimulate collagen formation, helping to repair even sun-damaged skin. It also helps to reduce wrinkles caused by exposure to UV light.
How can I effectively protect my skin against premature ageing?
It is important to protect your face from premature ageing by using skincare products that contain UV filters to combat the sun's rays, plus anti-oxidant Vitamin E to protect against environmental influences such as pollution. Try the Simple Regeneration skincare range to help your skin resist the first signs of ageing.
Please explain how your age-resisting brand works, as I haven't heard of the ingredients.
The Simple Regeneration range contains these nurturing ingredients:
- Green Tea, an anti-oxidant which ‘eats' free radicals, which are responsible for speeding up the ageing process
- Oat Beta Glucan, a natural anti-irritant, which helps to stimulate the skin’s immune system, strengthening its ability to protect itself
- Natural Mushroom Extract, which has an astringent and pore-refining effect on the skin to improve texture and tone
- Vitamin E, an anti-oxidant that protects skin from external influences such as air pollution. It preserves skin moisture and contributes to the elasticity and health of the skin. It can also help slow down ageing and speed up healing of the skin
- Pro-Vitamin B5, which improves and increases the moisture retention capacity of the skin, allowing dry skin to stay supple and elastic longer. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-itching properties and stimulates skin regeneration.
Simple Regeneration Plus Advanced Anti-Ageing Formula combines Natural Iris Flower Extract with a vitamin and mineral complex to help reduce wrinkles and firm skin. Plus, a natural anti-irritant Phycosaccharide that helps protect even the most sensitive skin from irritation and maintains skin’s natural balance.

PRODUCT INFORMATION |
|
How long can I keep my Simple products once it's opened?
There is now a symbol on the back of pack (PAO – period after opening) which looks like a jar with an opened lid, this tells you how long you can keep an opened product. It is important that the product is stored with the cap firmly screwed on.
How long can I keep my Simple product unopened?
Any Simple product can be kept unopened for 36 months from date of manufacture, shown by the four-digit batch code number on the side of the pack. The first number is the year of manufacture. For example, 7 is 2007. The other three numbers refer to the date within the year that the product was manufactured.
Is Simple antiperspirant safe?
You may have seen stories in the media or online suggesting a link between antiperspirants and breast cancer. Cancer is a complex issue and there is no evidence to suggest that one single factor is responsible for the disease.
A large number of scientific studies have investigated cancer risk factors. However, there is no reliable evidence to suggest that the use of underarm deodorants or antiperspirants containing parabens or aluminium can be a risk factor.
This has been confirmed by national cancer charities and other authorities (including Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Cancer Research UK) that consider these false allegations detract from the search for the true causative factors and divert attention away from action that should be taken on other risk factors associated with breast cancer.
How can your products be 100% perfume- and colour-free – when some contain a known fragrance like Lavender?
All natural odours come from essential oils, which are used in the products for the skincare benefits they provide. None of our products contain synthetic fragrances.
Do you have any active ingredients in your products?
We have active ingredients in many of our products. They have only been included for their performance tested intrinsic benefits and are all naturally derived.
What does it mean if a product has been Dermatologically Approved?
This offers extra reassurance that products have undergone the same, or even more stringent, tests than dermatologically tested products. Our products are examined at an independent testing house and the results are validated by an independent dermatologist to verify that they are safe to use.
What does hypoallergenic mean?
There is no industry standard definition for hypoallergenic. Simple products claiming hypoallergenic properties have been tested via HRIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test) by an independent testing house.
Many products claim to be suitable for sensitive skin and surely the safest are organic. How can I be certain your products are the gentlest?
Most brands have variants that are suitable for sensitive skin. However, they still contain the two most common irritants to the skin: perfume and colour.
Organic products are not about safety or mildness; organic simply refers to the source of ingredients.
Simple products have no perfume or colour and have been extensively tested to minimise irritation to the skin.
Any plans to remove the foaming ingredients in the face wash products?
We do not have any plans to remove the foaming ingredient from our face wash products.
How long has Simple been manufactured?
Our very first products were launched in 1960.
Are the wipes biodegradable? Will they be?
They are currently not biodegradable. However, it is something we are planning to change within the next two years.
Are none of your products natural as they contain known ’irritants’ such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate?
Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS) is a detergent used in many cosmetic products for its cleansing properties. Some Simple products contain small quantities of this ingredient. Rigorous consumer testing shows it is perfectly safe for sensitive skin, causing no long-term irritation or risk.
You don't include any advanced technology such as AHAs/Liposomes etc. Why not?
We only include advanced technology which has a proven safety profile and which minimises irritation to the skin.
You also use Parabens. What's the story behind recent press reports stating they cause cancer?
Parabens are a class of substances widely used as preservatives to prevent product deterioration. Scientific studies have demonstrated that low levels of Parabens are safe both for human health and the environment.

SKINCARE REGIME |
|
I use soap and water to wash my face day and night, should I be using a specific cleanser?
Unless the soap is a specific cleansing bar soap, you shouldn't use soap to wash your face, as soap designed for use on your body may be too harsh for sensitive facial skin. Try to use a Simple cleanser that is suitable for your skin type. Visit our What’s Right For You
section to find a product that's right for you.
There are so many different types of cleanser available now, how do I know which one to use?
Think about your skin type and how much time you have to spend on your skincare regime. Cleansing wipes, gels, washes and foams are ideal for a fast morning cleanse. Washes are also well-suited to normal and oily skin types. Cream cleansers are great if you have dry skin as they both moisturise and cleanse. Simple has a range of cleansers to suit everyone. Visit our What’s Right For You section to find a suitable product.
I don't have time to cleanse my face thoroughly. What do you suggest?
It is important to cleanse your skin daily so it is free from pore-clogging grime and grease. Of course, to make things easier for you, you can use Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes
for an effective and quick solution. It’s perfect, it’s convenient to use when you’re on holiday, in a cab, at a gym, at a club or wherever your exciting lifestyle takes you.
I don't wear make-up, is it still necessary to cleanse my skin twice a day?
Even if you don't wear make-up, your skin is still faced with pollution, dust and bacteria throughout the day. Cleansing is therefore a vital part of your daily skincare regime as it rids the skin of impurities. For a quick and convenient cleanse, try Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes.
Should I use a specific eye make-up remover or can I just use my usual cleanser or cleansing wipes?
You can just use cleanser or wipes to remove make-up. However, as eye make-up remover is specifically formulated to remove mascara, it is more effective. Simple Conditioning Eye Make-up Remover is a gentle and effective formula, which will remove even waterproof mascara.
Will not removing my make-up do my skin any harm?
Nighttime is when your skin begins its renewal process. Sleeping with make-up on can cause blemishes and premature signs of ageing. Your skin needs to breathe at night but make-up clogs your pores, which can cause blackheads and breakouts. If you can't manage to cleanse, tone and moisturise, try leaving a pack of Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes by the side of your bed so that you can quickly wipe away impurities in seconds before you go to sleep.
Is it necessary to use a toner after cleansing if I don't have spots?
Yes, toner removes the last traces of make-up and dirt. It is a treatment in its own right, which conditions the skin and prepares it for other skincare treatments. Simple Soothing Facial Toner is the perfect finish to your cleansing routine. Alcohol-free and pH balanced, it refreshes your skin without drying.
Why do I need a moisturiser?
Using a moisturiser will stop your skin from drying out by stepping up oil production. For oily and acne-prone skin, use oil-free moisturisers such as Simple Oil Balancing Moisturiser, so you won't add more oil to the problem.
Do I need to buy a day and a night cream, or can I just use a day moisturiser for both day and night moisturising?
The skin has time to relax at night and the regeneration process of cell division occurs to a greater extent at night than during the day. It is important to support the regeneration process at night. You should therefore provide the skin with enriched creams, such as Simple Regeneration Age Resisting Night Renewal.
When should I start to use eye creams?
The skin around the eyes is delicate and thin. This is usually the first place that you develop fine lines and wrinkles. It is recommended you start using eye creams in your mid twenties, as it is easier to prevent the lines from occurring than it is to treat them once they have appeared.
Simple Regeneration Age Resisting Eye Cream contains Green Tea, a natural anti-oxidant with Oat Beta Glucan to help stimulate the skin's immune system, reinforcing its ability to renew itself. It also contains Sodium Hyaluronate and Mushroom Extract to help firm and reduce puffiness around the eyes; natural Ginkgo Biloba; and, Pro-Vitamin B5 to help repair, protect and strengthen the skin around the delicate eye area throughout the day.
I try to cleanse, tone and moisturise as often as I can, sometimes up to five times a day. Is this okay for my skin?
It is essential to cleanse your skin daily to clear away dirt and bacteria. However, you're overdoing it. Cleansing changes your skin's balance with the environment by stripping protective oils that act as natural barriers to the elements. Overuse of skincare products may bring about sensitive skin or cause your skin to have breakouts. To avoid this happening, cleanse twice a day using a gentle cleanser such as Simple Purifying Cleansing Lotion.

Are there any products that I can use to control oil and help reduce my pores?
I have dry skin, which skincare products are most suitable?
What's the best moisturiser for oily skin?
Even if you have oily skin, it's still important to use a moisturiser, as skin still needs to be hydrated. Make sure you use an oil-free moisturiser, such as Simple Oil Balancing Moisturiser.
Why do I keep getting breakouts?
Sebum, a substance that sits around in your pores, is ideal food for bacteria normally present in and on your skin - icky, but true. Pores become blocked with debris and the bacteria multiply, setting the scene for nasty blackheads, whiteheads and spots. Try regular cleansing and using products that contain an anti-bacterial ingredient to combat the problem, such as Simple Oil Balancing range.
I can't figure out my skin type, sometimes it's oily in places, then other times, it's dry. Why can't it make up its mind?
Why do some cleansers make my skin feel dry?
Traditional soaps and cleansers for oily skin use harsh ingredients to strip away your natural oils. Your skin defends itself against this dryness by producing even more oil, creating a vicious cycle. Instead, try a mild wash to rinse away dirt and debris. Occasional exfoliation will help to remove dead skin cells and unblock pores to leave skin soft and smooth.
Why does my skin feel greasy?
Your skin's sebaceous glands produce sebum, a natural oil that helps to keep skin soft, supple and healthy. Emotional or external triggers - stress, stimulants, hormones, oil-stripping products and even the weather - can make the glands overproduce oil at times. These glands are more concentrated on your forehead, nose and chin. A shiny T-zone with dry cheeks is not unusual.
My skin always seems dry when I am in a cold environment, but greasy when it’s hot. What skincare regime should I follow?
Your skin’s moisture requirements increase in a colder environment, as the conditions can make your skin dry. It is recommended you use richer moisturisers in such an environment to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised. Try Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser and Simple Restoring Night Cream to keep your skin soft and supple and free of dry patches. | SUNCARE |
|
Why is Simple Suncare different?
The Simple Suncare range is unique because it offers specific formulations to protect the skin from UV rays. It also contains the natural anti-irritant Helioflower, which enhances the body's own resistance to allergies.
How do I know Simple Suncare products are suitable for sensitive skin?
Protecting skin from UV damage is the fundamental function of suncare products. However, the ingredients these products contain can lead to skin sensitivity. That's why Simple Suncare avoids sunscreens known to irritate the skin – along with fragrances and unnecessary colours, as these can also cause photosensitivity. We also undertake Skin Irritations Studies with The Consumer Product and Clinical Testing Research Unit, using nearly 10,000 volunteers.
What is the difference between a face sunscreen and a body sunscreen?
The skin on the face is more delicate and is more exposed to the damaging effects of the elements, including the sun than the rest of your body. The face, neck and hands are the most vulnerable areas, and where you will first begin to see the signs of ageing. Facial sunscreens are specially formulated to protect the delicate skin on your face from the signs of sun-induced ageing. Simple Suncare Hydrolotion Face Protector (SPF 40) is oil-free, non-pore blocking and suitable for use under make-up.
What's the difference between UVA and UVB rays?
Ultra-violet radiation is energy from the sun that reaches the earth in the form of ultraviolet rays. There are three types in total – UVC, UVA and UVB. UVC rays are filtered out by the ozone layer whilst the latter two affect the skin. UVA rays penetrate the skin, assisting the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which leads to premature ageing and photo damage. The star rating system indicates the level of UVA protection in a sunscreen. Those with four stars, such as the Simple Suncare range, offer the highest available protection against UVA rays and sun-induced ageing. UVB rays stop at the skin's surface – this exposure can lead to intense photo damage, sunburn and tanning. An SPF number shows the UVB protection in your sunscreen. The Department of Health recommend a minimum SPF 15, but the closer you are to the equator and the higher the altitude, the more intense the sun's rays will be and the quicker your skin will burn.
How do I know which SPF factor I should be using?
Sun Protection Factor (SPF) indicates the amount of protection provided by the correct application of a product against UVB: for example, SPF15 increases your skin's natural protection against burning UVB rays by up to 15 times. Everyone's levels of natural sun protection are different and depend on the skin's natural melanin content. The lighter your skin type the more additional protection you need. There are four basic skin types: (a). Fair skin that burns (b). Fair skin that tans (c). Brown skin (d). Black skin. Skin state is also important. If you suffer from sensitivity in general or when in the sun, you need to look for a range such as fragrance-free, irritant-free Simple Suncare.
Is it wise to use SPF every day?
It is certainly a good idea to use SPF products on an everyday basis, if only to help prevent some of the premature ageing effects caused by UVA radiation. Daily SPF protection should ideally be considered since most UVA radiation is present all year round. Most daily moisturisers contain UV filters, often with SPF 15 protection. The face and hands are most exposed so choose a moisturiser, such as Simple Regeneration Age Resisting Day Cream (SPF15) for added reassurance and to help protect skin against the ravages of premature ageing.
What does it mean when a product is photostable?
Some sunscreens may break down during prolonged exposure to UV radiation. Photostable means that the level of both UVA and UVB protection is maintained between applications. All Simple Suncare products are photostable.
